SSD purge is the process of returning a flash memory device to its original state at the time of manufacturing and effectively erasing any data that has been written to the device. A purge is sometimes called a hard reset or digital sanitization.
Some solid state drive (SSD) vendors build purge features into their products which erase data from the drive and then overwrite each addressable memory block with a pre-determined pattern. For solid state media that contains non-sensitive data, this may be an acceptable solution, but as with hard disk drives, physical destruction of the drive is the only way to completely ensure that data cannot be recovered.
