Fusion-io delivers management software for its solid-state drives

Fusion-io unveiled the Fusion ioSphere Platform, a software suite that helps manage and enhance its solid-state drive memory cards.

The suite includes ioManager to configure and manage Fusion ioMemory devices installed in a server, ioDirector to monitor and track allocation of ioMemory resources, and directCache that lets ioMemory act as a cache to any disk array, storage area network (SAN) or direct-attached storage (DAS). The software suite will be available early in 2011.

Promise bumps up performance

Promise Technology Inc. released the VTrak Ex30 series of midrange storage systems based on Intel's Jasper Forest processor. The systems support 8 Gbps Fibre Channel, 10 Gigabit Ethernet iSCSI and 6 Gbps SAS drives, and Promise claims the Ex30 can drive up to 650,000 IOPS. The systems scale from 8 TB to 384 TB with seven expansion chassis (192 drives). Pricing starts at $163,000 for a 384 TB configuration.

QStar adds object storage system

QStar Technologies rolled out the QStar Object Storage Manager (OSM) archiving and data management system. QStar offers packaged systems including OSM management software with a back-end storage system and a front-end network-attached storage (NAS) gateway, but the vendor said the object

Hewlett-Packard brings out Windows-based unified storage

Hewlett-Packard Co. launched two unified NAS and iSCSI storage systems based on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2. The HP StorageWorks X1000 G2 is a self-contained storage system that supports SATA and SAS drives, and the StorageWorks X3000 G2 is a gateway that connects to a SAN. The X3000 G2 can be clustered.

Avaya puts together virtual network

Coraid, QLogic and Silver Peak Systems were among the partners for the Avaya Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (Avaya VENA) launched this week. VENA includes QLogic 10-Gigabit Ethernet converged network switches, Coraid Ethernet SAN storage and SilverPeak's WAN optimization devices.

Hewlett-Packard to resell FalconStor replication software

FalconStor Software said HP Enterprise Services will use the FalconStor Network Storage Server (NSS) software to create disaster recovery solutions. HP will sell the heterogeneous replication in NSS to HP Business Continuity and Recovery Services (BCRS) customers to replicate data between storage from different vendors.

Dot Hill names CTO

Dot Hill Systems hired IBM veteran Kenneth Day as its chief technology officer to lead the storage system vendor's product strategy. Day will help integrate the storage virtualization products Dot Hill acquired from Cloverleaf with its storage arrays and virtual RAID adapters.

Hospital picks Sepaton VTL for backup

Sepaton Inc. said Baptist Health System (BHS) in Alabama is using Sepaton's S2100-ES2 virtual tape library (VTL) for the bulk of its backup load, which consists of more than 165 TB of data from hundreds of servers daily. BHS uses the Sepaton S2100-ES2 Series 2900 with Hitachi Data System arrays and Sepaton's DeltaStor deduplication software with 48 TB usable capacity and a single Sepaton Replication Engine (SRE) node, along with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup software.

School district shrinks files with Neuxpower

Neuxpower Solutions said Antelope Valley Union High School in California has used its file optimization software to reclaim at least 30% of its primary storage by reducing the size of Microsoft Office and JPEG files with Neuxpower NXPowerLite for File Servers.
