Emulex, Netreon develop a new way to view SANs

Emulex Corp., Costa Mesa, Calif., and Netreon Inc., announced a deal to incorporate support for Emulex's recently announced HBAnyware management suite into Netreon's SANexec Designer solution. The Netreon SANexec Designer solution will integrate support for HBAnyware to streamline the discovery and management of Emulex host bus adapters across multiple operating systems and the servers in which they operate, according to Netreon. Emulex's HBAnyware technology provides visibility to the SAN, enabling access to host associations, port attributes, link status and discovery information. HBAnyware is driver-based and uses in-band, industry standard protocols. Storage professionals will now be able to use Netreon's SANexec Designer to discover more detailed information about the hosts, as well as their relationship to the storage area network.

CNT, StorageTek extend replication over distances

Minneapolis, Minn.-based Computer Network Technology Corp., and Storage Technology Corp., Louisville, Colo., have jointly announced certification of StorageTek Clustered Virtual Tape Storage System (VTSS), a business continuity enhancement for its Virtual Storage Manager (VSM), with CNT's UltraNet Storage Director (USD) product for interoperability. CNT's USD extends the data replication capabilities of Clustered VTSS over long distances. This allows customers to geographically separate their VSM systems while keeping them closely coupled through Clustered VTSS, ensuring that the mirrored data repository is up to date, according to CNT.
